Some general questions and answers. Most have been relayed through the planning meetings, committee meetings, parent/child meeting, adult meeting, announcements at Troop meetings, and various emails. Thought it may help some to collect the questions and answers in a single location. Always check here (scoutlander) for information.
Hope this helps.
1.Can you tell us the date the bags need to be ready to be put on the pod and where/time we need to bring them?
The Pod Packing will be on Sunday, June 29 (the day after the Troop gets back from Henson). Time to be determined. It will be 2pm at the earliest. We don’t want to be there when mass lets out. Chuck is in charge of the pod. We were planning on making an announcement at the Troop meeting tomorrow night (and again at summer camp send off on Sunday and return next Saturday). The pod takes 10 days to ship. It will ship out on Monday, June 30. And from summer camp on Fri, July 25 (or the next business day).
2.Is the Web site itinerary and packing list accurate?
Yes, doing our best to update information as it changes. Both are on this webpage.
3.Are there shower facilities available at each camp site each day?
Not every day no. National Park campgrounds are notorious for not having showers.
· Sat, July 12, no, Lake Samamish State Park
· Sun, July 13, no, Lake Samamish State Park
· Mon, July 14, yes, at Sol Duc hot springs
o Camping at Elwah Dam RV Park, Port Angeles, WA, showers and laundry
· Tue, July 15, yes, Screamin Eagle campground.
· Wed, July 16, no, Cougar Rock
· Thu, July 17, no, Cougar Rock
· Fri, July 18, yes, Maupin City Park (coin operated)
· Sat, July 19, yes, Astoria KOA [group laundry day]
4.What type of shoe is required for rafting?
Same as other times the Troop has gone rafting or for boating at summer camp, i.e., closed toe. No open toe shoes on the trip. Most just wear their spare sneakers and wear their hiking boots during the trip until the shoes dry out.
5.Can youth still sign up for his schedule at Meriwether?
Most definitely. Send the information to Rob.
6.Will a one-week Adult’s bag need to come home with them at the end of first week or can it go in pod?
The plan is to send all the bags back in the pod (for 1 and 2 week people). A one-week adult can bring his bag back with him after the first week only if he wants to pay the baggage fees out of pocket. If there are items he needs before the Pod comes back then pack them in one if his carry on bags (personal item + carry on).
7. What is the Baltimore Orioles/Ravens shirt for? Is this required?
The Baltimore/Maryland shirt is for a spirit day. It can be anything Maryland related. We will be wearing the shirts as a group one (or more) days. It is just as required as the Troop 746 class B shirt. That is to say, he will be chastised for not having it nor will he be restricted from participating. But on the flip side if he doesn’t have one he’ll probably be the only one without it.
8.Will laundry be done for sure that Saturday prior to going to Meriwether?
Every long range trip we always have one laundry day. We don’t have the space to pack for 2 weeks of clean clothes.
9.Do they need to bring laundry soap?
We typically buy some as a Troop and share. No need for 40 jugs of Tide. But if you want to bring specific detergent due to allergies that is fine. If liquid make sure it is (double) bagged. Powder or single use is preferred if bringing your own.
