Cub Scout Pack 584

Cub Scout Pack 584 was originally chartered in 1972. We are chartered by St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church in Maple Grove, Minnesota and serves both boys and girls in grades K-5 at Cedar Island, Oak View, & Weaver Lake Elementary Schools within ISD 279.

Welcome to Pack 584

We welcome you and your scout to Cub Scouts Pack 584. Here are a few important things to know about Pack 584.

MEETINGS: Pack meetings are typically the third Monday night of the month at 6:30pm at St. Joseph the Worker church. Meetings last about an hour or so, during which we celebrate each scouts’ achievements from the previous month, discuss a core theme/value, play games, and learn about our community.

The pack is organized into different dens which are grouped by school grade:
    • Lion – Kindergarten
    • Tiger – 1st Grade
    • Wolf – 2nd Grade
    • Bear – 3rd Grade
    • Webelos – 4th Grade
    • Arrow of Light – 5th Grade
Our dens gather 1-4 times a month to do projects, play games, and visit points of interest in the community. During den meetings and at home with parents scouts earn awards, advancements, and patches. Cub Scouting is participation based with the scouts earning awards by doing their best.

FUN EVENTS:  Pack 584 offers many fun events scheduled for your scout throughout the year. The dates for these events can be found in this website (see Pack 584 Calendar). A few of the fun events offered this program year are:
PACK DUES:  Scout monetary dues help to cover the costs of these fun events along with other expenses, such as:
    • Scout advancements and awards
    • Scout neckerchief and slide
    • Den and Pack meeting expenses
    • Northern Star Council Registration Fee
    • Leadership registration & training
Your scout dues are paid in November, and summer camp fee is due in April.

FUNDRAISING: To help scouts pay for these scouting events and expenses, Pack 584 offers fundraising opportunities in the fall for selling popcorn and wreaths.

SCOUT UNIFORM:  Wearing a scout uniform gives youth and adult members a sense of identification. The uniform is a reminder of the member's commitment to character development, citizenship training, and personal fitness. Awards displayed on the uniform mark the progress of every Scout and leader in achieving these goals and successfully practicing Scouting's ideals.

The only uniforming requirement for Pack 584 members is the official Cub Scout shirt and Cub Scout neckerchief/slide for their Den grade level. (Note: Lions do not need a neckerchief/slide.) This is referred to as the Class A Uniform. In addition to the uniform shirt, you will also need to purchase and sew on/affix to the uniform the following patches: (1) a Northern Star Council patch; (2) the Pack numerals of 584. For placement of patches, get a uniform insignia sheet from the Scout Shop

Your scout’s Class A Uniform can be purchased at Northern Star Council Scout Shop. You can also buy all of these things online at the BSA Online Store. There is also a Uniform Exchange at the Leadership Center (6202 Bloomington Ave)  on the second and third Thursday of each month between 4:30 and 6:30pm to purchase donated uniforms at a discounted price. (Note: Some families have purchased a used uniform shirt from Ebay or Craigslist.)

SCHOLARSHIPS:  Pack 584 wants every child to experience the fun of Cub Scouting. If there is any financial difficulty with the scout dues, or with the cost of things like the uniform, patches, please contact the Committee Chair or the Cubmaster (see the Contact Info Page) to confidentially discuss the availability of Pack or Council scholarship funds. It is the express policy of Pack 584 that no child will be denied the benefits of Cub Scouting simply because of financial reasons.

NORTHERN STAR COUNCIL:  Cub Scouts Pack 584 is based in Maple Grove, Minnesota and report up through the District K to the Northern Star Council. The council includes communities reaching from the North Dakota border on the west to the communities of Ellsworth and Roberts, Wisconsin, on the east. The council's headquarters is in St. Paul, Minnesota, with a service center in Golden Valley, and additional Scout Shops in the northern and southern suburbs.

LEADERSHIP VOLUNTEERS:  Scouting is a volunteer/parent led organization that leverages the skills and support of the parents of our scouts. The pack is guided by a pack committee, run by a committee chair, and composed of den leaders, cubmaster, treasurer, and other chairman positions (fundraising, camping, advancements, and website chairs). The committee typically meets the first or second Sunday of each month at St. Joseph the Worker Church. The new volunteers begin their leadership positions in February.
