            Inclement Weather

Troop Meetings

Troop 309 follows the Northwest Hendricks School Corporation inclement weather policy when determining if a Troop meeting should be canceled. Northwest Hendricks School Corporation’s policy is located at:

North West Hendricks School Corporation - Index

In general, if the schools are closed, there is no meeting. Unless it's due to cold then we might have a meeting. Most of the time we will consult with one another to make sure we are in agreement.

Severe Weather During a Meeting

In the event of a severe thunderstorm or tornado warning while a scout meeting is in progress the troop will seek shelter in one of the three concrete block buildings in the park. If these facilities are not accessible the troop will shelter in place in the Scout Building.

Campouts and Special Events

The Scoutmaster leading an event is responsible for determining if cancellation is necessary. Cancellation is possible due to any number of factors such as weather, lack of participation, etc. Cancellation can occur prior to the event, day of the event, or due to the variable weather conditions in Indiana, during the event. Every effort will be made to notify Scouts and parents if an event should be canceled.

   Travel to Campouts and Special Events

      Troop 309 will follow the guidelines of the Indiana Department of Homeland Security travel

      to and from activities. This includes travel within the county and travel through any counties

      to reach an event. The troop will not travel to an event when a warning or watch status has

      been issued.

DHS: County Travel Status

Warning

    • The highest level of local travel advisory, means that travel may be restricted to emergency management workers only. During a "warning" local travel advisory, individuals are directed to:
      • (A) refrain from all travel;
      • (B) comply with necessary emergency measures;
      • (C) cooperate with public officials and disaster services forces in executing emergency operations plans; and
      •

        (D) obey and comply with the lawful directions of properly identified officers.

Watch

    •

      Means that conditions are threatening to the safety of the public. During a "watch" local travel advisory, only essential travel, such as to and from work or in emergency situations, is recommended and emergency action plans should be implemented by businesses, schools, government agencies, and other organizations.

Advisory

    • The lowest level of local travel advisory means that routine travel or activities may be restricted in areas because of a hazardous situation, and individuals should use caution or avoid those areas.
